Welland tree rules
No general permit for an ordinary private-yard tree; woodland and public-tree rules are separate.
The local rule
Welland states that an ordinary tree on your own private property does not require a City removal permit. Niagara Region woodland rules and municipal/public-tree rules are separate and can still apply to a different property context.
City-owned boulevard and park trees are different: the City’s forestry service controls their pruning and removal, so ownership still needs to be checked.
Before work starts
- Ownership: check the property line. Public and boundary trees may follow a different process.
- Site context: review any development approval, covenant or protected-area conditions.
- Work requirements: confirm any permit, exemption or protection requirements that apply to the planned work.
