Tree removal permits
A tree-removal permit is usually a local question, not a Canada-wide one. Municipalities may regulate private trees by diameter, species, property type, development status or protected area.
What to check.
Check whether the tree is private or public, how the municipality defines a protected tree, whether removal or “injury” is regulated, and whether a listed exemption still requires notice or documentation.
Why there is no national yes/no answer.
Canadian municipalities use very different systems. Some regulate most larger private trees. Some regulate only woodlots, environmental lands or development sites. Others focus almost entirely on public trees. The city guide is where Tree Rules Canada publishes the local source-derived answer.
