The local rule
Greater Sudbury’s current bylaw directory lists rules for trees on municipal rights-of-way and a Street Tree By-law, rather than a blanket permit for ordinary private-yard trees.
The City’s tree-removal service page is also framed around street trees and City Tree Warden review.
Private-land development, grading, natural-heritage or other site-specific controls can still apply independently and should be checked for major clearing or construction.
Before work starts
- Ownership: check the property line. Public and boundary trees may follow a different process.
- Site context: review any development approval, covenant or protected-area conditions.
- Work requirements: confirm any permit, exemption or protection requirements that apply to the planned work.
