Private-property tree owners are responsible for care and contagious pest/disease control; City-owned trees are a separate path.
The local rule
Airdrie says trees on private property are generally the homeowner’s responsibility, including maintenance required under applicable City standards.
The City can become involved where a tree has a contagious pest or disease or where public-property trees are involved, so the reason and ownership of the tree matter.
Before work starts
- Ownership: check the property line. Public and boundary trees may follow a different process.
- Site context: review any development approval, covenant or protected-area conditions.
- Work requirements: confirm any permit, exemption or protection requirements that apply to the planned work.
