The local rule
Strathcona County’s Land Use Bylaw regulates tree clearing: unless an exemption applies, tree clearing is not allowed until a development permit has been issued.
This is a land-clearing rule, not a statement that every single residential-tree removal uses the same process, so the scale and context of the work matter.
Before work starts
- Ownership: check the property line. Public and boundary trees may follow a different process.
- Site context: review any development approval, covenant or protected-area conditions.
- Work requirements: confirm any permit, exemption or protection requirements that apply to the planned work.
